Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell takes Aldi job after quitting ITV soap

Actress Alexandra Mardell has revealed she has been working for the supermarket Aldi, after leaving Coronation Street last year.

Having played hairdresser Emma Brooker for over three years, the soap star had become a fan favourite and many were saddened by her departure.

Alexandra announced that she would be leaving the cobbles in 2022 to pursue other projects. She said that it felt like “the right time” to do, following her success on the show.

And now, in a tongue-in-cheek Instagram post, Alexandra told fans that she’d been working supermarket Aldi on their latest ad campaign.

Sharing a clip of her voicing a casserole, the star quipped that she’d “never felt so connected to a role”.

Her former Corrie co-stars had plenty to say about Alexandra’s most recent role.

Actress Sally Ann Matthews, who is best known for playing Jenny Bradley, wrote: “Oh my God. That’s totally being assigned as your ring tone. Love it! x"

Others quickly followed, with Georgia Taylor adding: “Absolute banger".

During her time on the ITV soap, Alexandra won Best Newcomer at the 2019 British Soap Awards and was nominated for a similar accolade at the NTAs.

Fans adored her portrayal of apprentice Emma, who worked at Audrey Robert’s iconic salon and had a brief relationship with her grandson, David Platt.

Other storylines included surviving a tragic roof collapse at the factory, discovering Steve McDonald was her father and a disastrous relationship with Curis Delamere.

It’s seems that Alexandra’s career is going from strength to strength after leaving the long-running soap.

Over the festive season, she appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and went on to win the Christmas special with her partner, professional dancer Kai Widdrington.

The pair danced a Christmassy quickstep to Sleigh Rode by 60’s girl group the Ronettes.

Alexandra even wore a reindeer costume, complete glittery antlers and button nose, as she performed the routine, which saw gained her tens across the board.

In still in shock from her incredible score, Alexandra struggled to contain her excitement as she stood besides Kai – who was dressed in Santa costume.

She told the audience: “I am so shocked, I cannot thank you enough. I'm so happy about that, I did that for you [Kai] as well, I can't believe it…”

The pair would go on to lift a festive version of the glitterball trophy, after competing against Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts and podcaster Rosie Ramsey.

Alexandra will also be back on our screens later this month, in comedy-drama The Family Pile alongside Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington.

The ITV series will follow four sisters as they grieve the loss of their parents and prepare to sell the family home.
