She is known to most of us as Corrie legend Liz McDonald. But away from the leopard print and beer taps, actress Beverley Callard is actually a fitness fanatic who used to teach aerobics classes in between filming scenes on the famous Coronation Street cobbles. So when routine keyhole surgery on her hip left her in excruciating pain and no longer able to exercise, Beverley was gutted.

Before being cast as Liz, Beverley played Angie Richards in Emmerdale but prior to that, her passion for exercise was her business. She even had her own exercise slots on GMTV in the 80s and released four successful fitness videos!

Beverley explains: “It was really hard to stop exercising while I was doing physio and recovering, because I’ve always taught fitness classes – even at the height of some of my biggest storylines in Coronation Street, I taught three classes a week."

After Beverley and her husband Jon moved to Norfolk, the actress decided to take matters into her own hands, so determined was she that she get back to doing what she loves.

Beverley says: "“So about six weeks into our move to Norfolk, I said to Jon, ‘Right, I’m going to start teaching again.’ I posted an ad on the local village Facebook group, saying I was looking for 25 feisty women to take part in my class. It didn’t matter what age they were, what shape they were or their fitness level. I’m not into teaching a class full of stick insects. I just wanted real women."

Now, she’s running her own Beverley’s Results classes at a hotel close to her home, where she teaches a group of ladies twice a week.

She adds that the classes were immediately popular and it's not just her mental health that is benefiting as a result. The kind hearted former soap star donates all of the profits to a local charity.

“Within two days, 700 people wanted to do it, which is amazing. I charge £5 and all the money goes to the East Anglian Air Ambulance," she tells OK!

And the classes have done wonders for her social life, too! The result of Beverley becoming such an active part of the local community is that they now have a brand-new set of friends. So instead of their idyllic country life having a healthy influence on their lifestyle, they are always having glasses of wine with their pals. And they’re also prone to picking up fancy treats at the local farm shop! But fun loving Beverley wouldn't have it any other way.
