Neighbours reboot plot twist sends fans into a frenzy as viewers are left in shock over the debut episode’s ‘cruel’ cliffhanger: ‘Was not expecting that!’
Neighbours fans were left in shock this week when the reboot premiere ended with an ‘unexpected’ cliffhanger.
Viewers flocked to social media to express their disbelief at a plot twist in which Toadie (Ryan Moloney) and Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou) tie the knot.
But many were baffled at the development given last year’s season finale saw the popular character marry a completely different woman.
The Channel 10 soap has been subject to a two-year time jump after last year’s faux series finale during which Toadie married Melanie (Lucinda Cowden).
‘Omg! Was not expecting that. We are literally here saying WHAT!?’ one person commented on Instagram.

Another said: ‘I’m in shock. Not sure what to think! My whole day has been thrown up in the air!’
Others were more concerned for Paul (Stefan Dennis) who appeared to have reunited with his love Terese in last year’s series finale after their tumultuous split.
However the new development meant they too had split in the interim.
One person wrote: ‘Terese and Toadie big NO NO. Team Paul all the way they are meant to be. Hopefully it’s a twist. Happy tho [sic] neighbours is back.’
Someone else commented: ‘Paul sitting through the wedding watching the love of his life marry another man was just cruel.’

It comes after Executive Producer Jason Herbison explained to TV Tonight on Monday why the show made the decision to change the plot so drastically.
‘In doing the two year time jump, I wanted to reward the audience with a truly surprising twist,’ he said.
‘It’s very possible that two unexpected characters could fall in love during that time frame and it would make total sense if you’d seen it play out.’

Herbison went on: ‘The difference is, you haven’t seen it play out – so now we ask you to keep watching and discover how it happened.
‘I wanted an OMG moment to kick off the new chapter and Toadie and Terese were perfect. I love that they’ve never looked twice at each other in that way.
‘But it’s not just there for shock value – there is a deep and complex back story that underpins it’.

It comes after it was revealed that Neighbours already has a hundred episodes in the bag.
On Friday’s episode of The Project, returning stars Annie Jones and Ryan Maloney said that the show, which has been filming since April, is more than ready for the new season.
‘We started filming in April, so it’s been a very long time for us to kind of keep everything really top-secret,’ Ryan said.
‘I think we’re almost up to 100 episodes,’ Annie piped up, with Ryan confirming, ‘Yeah, we did 100’.
He added: ‘That we’ve already done, so, yeah. I mean, we’ve also done 9,000, but we’re up to 100 for Amazon now, yeah.’
