Taking a picture of her bandaged leg from her hospital bed, the Vicar of Dibley star told her 610,000 Twitter followers: “New knee is in! [clapping emojis].”
The comic actress, 66, suffers from osteoarthritis, a painful condition that affects joints and can cause stiffness.

Dawn previously opened up about her rheumatoid arthritis to Radio Times in December 2020.
“It’s a privilege to get older, but it’s not for wusses,” she said at the time.
“Things go a bit wrong… your rheumatoid arthritis knee stops you walking your dog a long way every morning, you know you’ve got to have a little op on that at some point, and you’ve got to take six weeks off…
“But ultimately, it ain’t so bad. Your teeth are a bit yellower, your chin has sagged, you’re fatter, you’re greyer.”
Dawn recently shared that the pain in her knee from osteoarthritis had become completely unbearable, announcing last week that she’d be having urgent joint replacement surgery and cancelling her remaining tour dates as a result.
UK charity Versus Arthritis has shared some key information about arthritis with Express.co.uk.
The organisation said: “There are many different types of arthritis, affecting over 10 million people in the UK – that’s one in six of us.
“Each type has its own causes, including the genes you inherit, injuries you’ve had, or conditions where the immune system attacks the joints.
“Osteoarthritis is the most common type and the one we’ve probably all heard of, often mistaken to be an inevitable condition caused by ‘wear and tear’ as we age.
“In truth, it’s not simply ‘wear and tear’; our joints are made of living tissue which our bodies constantly repair and maintain, and osteoarthritis occurs when the body can no longer do this as effectively, so the cartilage becomes thin and uneven.”
