The drama didn’t end when Downton Abbey stopped filming!
If you’re up to date with all things BBC, then this is the crossover event of the century — it’s just behind the scenes. Yes, it’s a real life love triangle between Downton Abbey, Broadchurch, and their new hit Better. All three being drama series, we guess it’s no surprise when drama occurred on set, right? Although fans couldn’t have seen this twist coming!
In case you’re not familiar, 44-year-old Andrew Buchan is a very popular actor in the UK, most notably starring as Mark Latimer in murder mystery Broadchurch. (It’s kind of like the British Mare of Easttown.) In 2012, he married Downton Abbey star Amy Nuttall, who portrayed Ethel Parks in the hit period piece. They share a daughter and a son together, and were arguably one of the cutest couples on the red carpet for years… but that all came crashing down when Andrew met his new co-star Leila Farzad.
Andrew landed a role in the crime show Better alongside Leila and the pair of them instantly got super close — too close. The 40-year-old actress spoke to the BBC earlier this month and described her onscreen relationship with her co-star as “intense”:
“It’s a very complicated relationship. When we first meet them, it’s an intense relationship that has an element of friendship, but there’s quite an intimate power play between these two people.”
It looks like “intimate power play” wasn’t far off from what it’s like in real life with two! According to The Sun, Andrew up and left Amy to be with Leila!
The outlet reported the actor left his family over Christmas to move in with Leila — who is also married and has a child (though she was already separated from her husband). Yeah, he decided to leave his wife and kids during the holidays! Sheesh…
Amy had her suspicions about cheating, but never expected Andrew to actually leave her. She told DailyMail.com on Tuesday she was left “crushed” by the situation. While fighting back tears, she told reporters:
“I can’t talk about it. I’m sorry, I can’t say anything.”
A friend of the heartbroken star spoke to the outlet instead, claiming it was Amy who confronted her hubby about an affair. That’s what led him to pull the plug:
“It has broken Amy, it has been so dreadfully sad to see. She got wind that something was going on and she knew she had to say something so she confronted Andrew about it. It must have been the most difficult thing Amy has ever had to do. Now she is getting used to life without him and it is really hard.”
The confidant mentioned her friendship with Downton co-star Joanne Froggatt as something that’s helped:
“Luckily, she has some great friends around her who are supporting her every step of the way. One is Joanne and only a few years ago she split from her husband but she has got through and come out the other side.”
Another friend said the actress has been crying “virtually every day”:
“It’s been very hard for Amy. She’s been crying virtually every day since it happened and she’s struggling to cope with things. She can’t even bring herself to talk about it as she’s still trying to make sense of it all.”
So sad… What is it with married British actors just leaving devastation in their wake lately??
