Emilia Clarke recalls ‘most surreal moment’ of her life

Emilia Clarke has said she believes suffering from a brain haemorrhage has stopped her from becoming a d***head.

The 37-year-old suffered from from two brain aneurysms in 2011 and 2013 and she thinks the life-changing health scares have changed her for the better.

Speaking in the December/January issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the Game Of Thrones actress said: “If I hadn’t had a brain haemorrhage, I might have turned into a right old d*ckhead, thinking I was the bee’s knees, living in Hollywood.

“I’m so much aware of what’s happening, in the moment that it’s happening. I don’t worry about failure – I thrive on failure!

“If something goes wrong, I always think you can fix it. It hurts, it’s scary, but then you can do anything.”

The movie star suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm in February 2011.

She underwent endovascular coiling surgery and went on to have a second aneurysm surgically treated in 2013.

Emilia’s career was going from strength-to-strength thanks to her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game Of Thrones, but the star was worried her ill health would result in her being fired from the hit show.

“I wasn’t afraid of dying. I was afraid of being fired! I decided: ‘This is not something that is going to define me’, she told the publication.

“I never gave into my feeling of ‘Why me? This sucks’. I was just like – gotta get back on it.”

Emilia expressed that she felt ashamed after her second haemorrhage and thought the producers may think of her as “unreliable”.

The experience “plagued” her for a long period time, but now she feels a renewed sense of purpose.

The Londoner says it took her a decade to understand where she is today and who she is, as a result of her experiences.

Emilia was a part of hit HBO series Game of Thrones from its inception in 2011 until the last season which aired in 2019.
