Marina Sirtis is best known for her role as Deanna Troi in the sci-fi series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The actress has now opened up about reprising her iconic role in 2019 for a spin-off show.

Marina joined fan favourite Sir Patrick Stewart (who played Captain Jean-Luc) in Star Trek: Picard.

The show revolves around retired admiral Jean-Luc Picard and is set at the end of the 24th century.

Marina returned to the series two years ago where she reprised her role as Deanna.

The on-screen star admitted that “everyone was more excited” than herself about the gig.

She added that it wasn’t “exciting” playing Deanna after being part of the cast for the past three decades.

“It sounds really ungracious but I think everyone was more excited than me,” Marina remarked.

“I was excited because I just missed working with my pals. We had such a good time. I don’t think that is ever going to be repeated.”

She went on: “But as for playing the part – I played my character for 30 years on and off.

“It wasn’t exciting playing her but it was exciting being back on the set again and hanging out with Jonathan [Frakes] and Patrick.”

She added: “And meeting the new guys who are lovely and treat us with respect.”

Marina shared that on the last day of filming things got “very loud” on set, after she reunited with her former castmates.

She explained: “On the last day of filming, actually, Michael Dorn [Klingon Worf] and LeVar Burton [La Forge] came to visit and it got very loud, very fast.

“And everyone got an idea of what it was like on our set and they realised then that our days were very long because we mucked about so much.”

She added: “We wasted a lot of time, but when you’re working 16 hour days if you’re not having fun, it’s going to be a nightmare.”

The second season of Star Trek: Picard finished production in early September, right before the big Star Trek Day event.

Marina did not return for the second series of Star Trek: Picard but addressed reuniting with Patrick.

She remarked: “I don’t know what happened but he suddenly became a huge fan of mine.

“Maybe it was because he hadn’t seen me act in a while.”

Marina explained that she is still in contact with all of the Star Trek actors including Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar), Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) and Gates McFadden (Dr Beverley Crusher).

The actress said that she would always remain good friends with the cast and credited them for being her support after her husband Michael Lamper’s death.
