Florence Pugh and Zach Braff have split after three years of dating.

The Don’t Worry Darling actress, 26, started dating the Scrubs comedian, 47, in 2019, and recently spoke out against critics of their 21-year age gap.

In a new interview, she confirmed that they went their separate ways earlier this year, and initially wanted to keep the news quiet as everyone had already voiced their ‘opinions’ on the romance.

‘We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on,’ she said. ‘We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we’re not together.

‘So we’ve done that. I automatically get a lumpy throat when I talk about it.’

Florence also took a moment to slam the way ‘private moments, or moments that aren’t even real’ end up becoming gossip fodder on social media as ‘incredibly wrong’.

‘I don’t think that people, just because they have this job, that every aspect of their life should be watched and written about. We haven’t signed up for a reality TV show,’ she continued to Harper’s Bazaar.

Before their split, the Little Women actress collaborated with her now-ex on an upcoming project, A Good Person, which is slated to be released next year.

It explores the story of a woman who is faced with a sudden tragedy, who is then forced to pick up the pieces of her life.

‘The movie that we made together genuinely was probably one of my most favorite experiences,’ she added of the script, which Zach wrote with her in mind. ‘It felt like a very natural and easy thing to do.’

Florence and Zach started dating in 2019, and have faced a lot of negativity over the age gap since they were first linked.

The Midsommar star – who was recently linked to Will Poulter – was forced to call out followers for ‘bullying someone’ on her Instagram page after she publicly wished the Garden State actor a happy birthday, and insisted that she would not stand for it.

She later took aim at the public response in an interview with the Sunday Times last July.

‘It’s so weird to me to go on to someone’s page and sh*t on it,’ she said. ‘That’s so not my nature — to go and bully for the sake of bullying. It’s such an odd thing that we’ve become OK with in the past 10 years of social media.

‘The thing is, people want Instagram to be a nicer place, they want to see nice things. They want to be inspired and they want to be happy. I don’t mind you not liking me, that’s absolutely fine. In which case don’t follow me.’

Florence also suggested that people made the comments as she wasn’t dating someone they ‘expected’ her to be with.

She added: ’But it’s my life, and I’m not doing anything to please people or to make it a better headline or story. I want to also be a person.’
