Football icon welcomes first baby after withdrawing from match for personal reasons

Footballer Diogo Dalot has welcomed his first child with fiancée Claudia Pinto, after missing a recent match due to 'personal reasons'.

The Manchester United ace, 24, who also plays for the Portugal national team, withdrew from the Euro qualifiers earlier this week and head coach Roberto Martinez was informed that Claudia was due to give birth imminently.

On Wednesday, 15 November, Diogo announced the arrival of his and Claudia's baby daughter on Instagram with a sweet black and white photograph of the couple holding their newborn's hand.

"Welcome to the world Clara. 15.11.2023," the new dad proudly captioned the post, introducing his daughter to the world.

Diogo and Claudia were inundated with well wishes from friends and fans on social media, with many flocking to congratulate them on becoming parents.

Fellow Manchester United player Sergio Reguilón wrote: "Congratulations brother," with two red heart emojis, while Eva Garcia – Alejandro Garnacho's girlfriend – penned: "Congratulations family!!! I wish you all the best".

Fabrizio Romano said: "Welcome clara!" and the official Instagram account for Manchester United commented: "Congratulations to you both!"

Anouska Santos added: "Congratulations guys xx," and Cam Reading said: "Congratulations guys".

Diogo was expected to start both Euro 2024 qualifiers but after quitting Portugal's training camp, a statement was released about him being released. It read: “Joao Mario will make his debut in a national team call-up after being called up this afternoon to replace Diogo Dalot.

“The Manchester United defender was released from the national team's work for personal reasons and after communication with national coach Roberto Martinez.”

Diogo and Claudia began dating back in 2020 and their romance has continued to go from strength to strength. The couple split their time between Portugal and England, and can regularly be found jetting off on lavish holidays to destinations including Sardinia, Dubai and Thailand.

Diogo popped the question to his girlfriend back in March in a stunning proposal. He covered a room with red rose petals and heart-shaped balloons, with light-up letters reading 'MARRY ME?' in the centre of the space.

"02.03.2020 YES to the rest of our lives," Claudia wrote on Instagram as she announced the happy news.

In July the pair announced they were expecting their first child together with a series of stunning photos of Diogo cradling Claudia's blossoming bump.
