Friends fans are convinced that they have unearthed a secret detail that proved which couples were always meant to end up together.

The long-running sitcom saw close friends Chandler Bing and Monica Geller get together in season four and become a fan favourite couple.

Ross Geller and Rachel Green’s on-off romance was also a focus throughout the show’s ten series, before they rekindled things in the final ever episode.

But fans are convinced that they have unearthed a secret detail that proved the two couples were always destined to end up together.

Eagle-eyed viewers have taken to social media to share a moment from season three episode The One with the Football, which they think hints towards the romances.

Eagle-eyed viewers have taken to social media to share their theory that their outfits from season three episode The One with the Football (above) hint towards the romances

They suggested that Monica and Chandler both wearing Giants gear and Ross and Rachel sporting Nike clothing hinted that they were going to end up together at the end of the show

The episode saw Ross and Monica relive their sibling rivalry as they went go head-to-head in a game of American football, in opposing teams with Rachel, Chandler, Joey Tribbiani and Phoebe Buffay.

While their Thanksgiving dinner was cooking, the group changed into their sports gear for the match, and fans are convinced their outfits hinted at something more.

They shared moments from the episode showing Ross wearing a blue jumper embellished with the Nike tick, while Rachel also sported a hat featuring the same logo.

Meanwhile, Chandler was wearing a blue Giants cap while Monica donned the same branded jumper, with fans becoming convinced this signaled they were meant to be together.

Sharing the snaps to Instagram, one fan speculated: ‘Look at Rachel’s cap and look at Monica’s T-shirt. Can you understand what I’m trying to say?’

Fans were quick to take to the comments section to support the theory, admitting they too were convinced the outfit choices were hinting at which characters would end up together.

One wrote: ‘Such a sweet little detail,’ while another said: ‘Foreshadowing. Amazing,’ and a third said: ‘Pre-destined.’

A fourth gushed: ‘They were meant to be,’ while a fifth commented: ‘Yep, love, love, love.’

One added: ‘Their lobster,’ referring to Phoebe calling soulmates ‘lobsters’ due to her theory that they ‘fall in love and mate for life’.

During the season three episode, Ross and Rachel were in a relationship, but they broke up just episodes later in The One Where Ross And Rachel Take A Break.

Meanwhile, Monica and Chandler didn’t begin their romance until an entire series later, when their one-night stand at Ross’ wedding to Emily in London turned into something more.
