Gogglebox favourite ‘signs up to I’m A Celebrity’ as show returns to Australia

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is just a month away from returning and it's been reported that a Gogglebox favourite might be making their way down under.

Celebrity Gogglebox star Babatunde Aleshe has reportedly signed up to join the ITV competition series in November, swapping the comfort of his friend Mo Gilligan’s couch for the Australian jungle.

Babatunde has found success as a comedian in recent years after touring Britain doing stand-up and performing at London’s O2 Arena and the Hackney Empire, and won Best Newcomer at the Black Entertainment Comedy Awards.

A source has said ITV bosses are “excited” at Babatunde joining I’m a Celebrity, following the star’s increasing popularity with fans over his hilarious jokes on Gogglebox.

An insider told The Sun: “Bosses are really excited to have Babatunde in the mix. He’s become a firm favourite with Celebrity Gogglebox viewers and producers reckon he’ll be a great campmate.

“He’s been doing stand-up for years but it’s his banter and constant one-liners with best mate Mo on Celebrity Gogglebox that really impressed the casting team.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to head to the jungle.”

Babatunde dabbled in acting before venturing onto the comedy circuit, appearing on EastEnders playing the small part of a nurse named Sam who cared for Tanya Branning amid her cancer battle.

The comedian’s possible reality show move could lead him to reach new heights in his career, following the success of his friend and fellow comic Mo and Joel Dommett, who joined I’m a Celebrity in 2016.

If Babatunde is joining the show, he could be joining the likes of  Danny Dyer, Alex Beresford, Tom Daley, and James Buckley, who have all been rumoured.

Boy George and Hollyoaks star Romeo Nightingale are also speculated to be in the line-up for the ITV series.

It was confirmed in August that the hit series is returning to its original home of Australia, after two years away due to the pandemic.

Since 2020, the ITV show has been filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales, but this is all set to change and production is already underway in preparation for the new series coming up.

Presenters Ant and Dec will be returning as hosts of the show, which starts on November 13.
