The Hairy Bikers' Si King has given a health update on his close friend Dave Mylers after the popular chef was diagnosed with cancer.

Dave, 64, went public with his diagnosis in May but is yet to reveal the type of cancer he is suffering from.

During a live cooking presentation at Bolton Food and Drink Festival, Si, 55, shared some insight into his co-star's cancer battle.

He began by thanking those in the crowd for their support and reassured them by saying that Dave is "in the trenches" but that he is "getting there".

He continued: "I just wanted to say, from Dave and I, thank you so so very much for all of the goodwill and support, all the messages really do not go unnoticed.

"He's doing canny but as you appreciate he's right in the trenches of it all at the minute but he's getting there, thank God."

Si appeared on stage with TV presenter Jenny Powell, after Dave had been forced to pull out of the festival appearance due to his health battle, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

Dave's cancer diagnosis was revealed in an episode of his and Si's podcast, Agony Uncles, in May.

Speaking in the episode, Dave said he didn't want to keep his diagnosis as a secret, and said he didn't want to "hide under a rock".

He told listeners: "I've got to come clean now. I haven’t been too well recently and, basically, I’ve got to have some chemo.

"I may be a baldy biker for a while it’s simply something I have to live with. I don’t want to make a fuss about it, I look alright bald actually."

And in July, he appeared on Kate Thornton's White Wine and Question Time podcast.

In the rare interview, the 64 year old explained doctors only picked up on his cancer after he had complained about "certain bits and bobs".

He said: "At the minute I'm going through treatment for cancer and it's like another chapter.

"I went to the doctors complaining of certain bits and bobs and the next thing I know I got a phone and told it's a tumour and I'm going to have chemotherapy."

Dave added that although his treatment is doing the trick, he does suffer from a few side effects.

He said: "Fortunately, the chemo is working but it's the effect chemotherapy has on you. Everyday is a school day.

"My eyes are sore because my eyelashes have fallen out – it's c**p like that that's really irritating. But I'm getting there. I've got to go in tomorrow for another lot. I'm just getting through it."

One of the many side effects has seen Dave develop a craving for Vimto and cottage pie. He admitted that now rather than sitting down with his wife on an evening and opening a bottle of wine, he now opts for his new favourite soft drink.

He said: "I've got a craving for cottage pie and Vimto. Lil's sitting down with a nice glass of Burgundy, and I've got a pint of Vimto. Last time I had Vimto was when I was eight."
