Iconic Hannah Montana star arrested for ‘stealing bag of crisps’ as mugshot is released

Hannah Montana star Mitchel Musso was arrested for ‘public drunkenness and theft after stealing a bag of crisps.’

The 32-year-old actor, who gained fame for his role as Oliver Oken on the popular Disney show alongside singer Miley Cyrus, was arrested in Texas on Saturday, 26 August.

TMZ reports that the star was charged with ‘public intoxication and theft’ in his hometown of Rockwall.

Police were reportedly called to his motel after he was accused of stealing a bag of crisps. Hotel employees claimed the former Disney child star became "verbally abusive" and left without paying for the snack.

Mitchel is understood to have been intoxicated, with the outlet reporting that the police found the actor outside the hotel.

He was then arrested after it was determined that he was "under the influence". Mitchel spent a night in prison before being released on Sunday after posting bail of $1000 (£793).

Police also released a solemn mugshot of the dark-haired actor who starred in the popular kids' TV show Hannah Montana between 2006 and 2011.

In 2011, he was previously arrested for driving under the influence in Burbank, California.

At the time, Mitchel pleaded no contest to the charges and was fined and sentenced to 36 months of informal probation. It was also ruled that he would have to attend alcohol education classes.

The Phineas and Ferb actor has been candid about his struggles with mental health. In December 2021, the Disney alumni shared photos showing concerning weight loss.

He captioned the images: “'The one on the left, I was 119 pounds, sick, depressed, and broken. The photo on the right is me today, 160 pounds, mentally and physically rebuilt stronger than I was before.'"

His co-star Miley has also opened up about seeking therapy due to the negative effects of being a child star.

Speaking to the Sunday Post about her ordeal, the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus explained: “'When I look back at the criticism I received as a child, it is only in these last few years that I have understood just how wrong that was.

“I am a strong believer in therapy to help heal painful memories and I am in a good place – but the reality is, it should never have happened!”
