I’m A Celeb star Brian Paddick breaks silence after sudden death of his husband

Former I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestant Brian Paddick has broken his social media silence following the sudden death of his husband.

Retired police officer Brian, who made a name for himself as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the London mayoral elections, now works as a life peer in the House of Lords.

On Monday, Brian, 64, took to Twitter to announce the death of his “loving husband”, Petter Belsvik, who died at their home in Oslo, Norway.

"My beautiful, loving husband, Petter Belsvik, has died suddenly at our home in Oslo. He was found peacefully alone, with no cause of death immediately apparent,” he tweeted. "It will take some time to establish what happened. We were devoted to each other & I am devastated."

Brian returned to Twitter on Tuesday to thank followers and friends for their support during the difficult time.

He penned: "Thank you everyone who has posted such kind and positive words. I hope you will forgive me for not being able to respond to each of you individually, but I am so very grateful to each and everyone of you."

Following the sad news, Brian and social media were flooded with supportive messages from the likes of Sky News journalist Kay Burley, who wrote: "My dear Brian, this is truly tragic news. All my thoughts are with you. Stay strong xxx"

"Oh my goodness Brian, I'm so so sorry… Sending you and the family my love xx,” wrote Loose Women panellist Charlene White.

Someone else tweeted: “I am shocked and so sorry to hear this, Brian. I hope that you have people immediately around you who can support you. If there's ever anything I can do or you would like to talk, then I am here.”

“I am so very sorry to read this. I hope that with the support of family and many friends you will find the strength to confront this sudden tragedy and, in time, find comfort and consolation,” another person said, as fifth added, “Oh my Brian, I'm so so sorry to ready this, sending all the love in the world to you and your family xxxx”

Brian and Petter met in a bar while holidaying in Ibiza, with them later tying the knot in Norway back in 2009, five years before same-sex marriage was legalised here in the UK.

Their wedding was incredibly high profile due to Brian’s nature as a public figure and the fact Norway had legalised same-sex marriage just a week before.

Fans may also remember Brian from his time on I’m a Celeb during season eight of the show back in 2008.

Brian competed against contestants like Nicola McLean, Simon Webbe, David Van Day, George Takei, Martina Navratilova and the series champion, EastEnders actor Joe Swash.
