Is the romance finally over between Shirley Ballas and her ‘toyboy’? Star, 62, admits she hasn’t seen beau Danny Taylor, 50, ‘for months’ but that they’re still ‘good friends’

Is the romance finally over between Shirley Ballas and her ‘toyboy’?

Strictly Come Dancing’s head judge, 62, admits that while she and stage actor and dancer Danny Taylor, 50, are still ‘good friends’, they haven’t actually seen each other ‘for months’.

The pair got together in 2019 after meeting in panto, with divorcee Shirley — who is about to become a grandmother — often declaring less than subtly that she was waiting for a proposal.

But she has now changed her mind due to Taylor’s unwillingness to tie the knot, the pair’s long separations because of work, and the fact that she now lives with her mother.

‘The only pressure I felt was my own — it was me who was rushing to get married,’ she admits.

Busy: Strictly Come Dancing’s head judge, 62, admits that while she and stage actor and dancer Danny are still ‘good friends’, they haven’t actually seen each other ‘for months’

‘Then things changed last year — my mum moved in and Danny’s not in a place to get married. We’re good as we are.

‘We both travel, so I haven’t seen him for months, but we’re good friends and that works.’

The pro dancer was previously married to  previously married to former ballroom star Sammy Stopford from 1980 to 1984 before tying the knot with dancer Corky Ballas in 1985 with the couple splitting up in 2007 after 22 years together.

In June she revealed she has ‘changed her mind’ about marrying her long term partner Danny.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline at the Copacabana London Cabaret Show she revealed her priorities had changed.

Saying: ‘I’ve changed my mind. I just feel that at this particular point in my life, my mother and I have got this great relationship and we want to do some travelling and there is different things we want to do’.

Shirley has been dating him since 2019 and were rumoured to be engaged after Danny surprised her with a diamond ring in 2021.

Despite the news the pair are still happier than ever with Shirley revealing that they do everything they can to make their long-distance relationship work as Danny is currently on tour.

Romance: The pair got together in 2019 after meeting in panto, with divorcee Shirley — who is about to become a grandmother — often declaring less than subtly that she was waiting for a proposal

‘[The relationship is] going good – I’m busy, he’s busy and we talk to each other every day – several times a day, and my mum talks to him as well’.

Before revealing: ‘I’d love to do a travel show with my mother, but she doesn’t like the camera, so she says, but give her a few brandies and she’s great’.

Shirley has a very close relationship with her mother Audrey, 85, and told The Guardian last year: ‘My mum, Audrey, is 85 and lives with me, and we like to snuggle up in bed and watch murder mysteries’.

Going on to say: ‘Queen Bee and quite bossy. She’s not as forgiving as I am, but she has a beautifully kind heart. She raised my son, Mark (now a dancer on the American version of Strictly), from age two to 21 whenever I was travelling for my dance career’.

‘I like to think he got that beautiful side of her, but also a sharp, prickly side from me. Everybody needs a prickly side – so you’re not walked over’.

Former flame: Shirley married Corky Ballas in 1985 with the couple splitting up in 2007 after 22 years together

It comes after Shirley recently lifted the lid on the latest series of Strictly and hinted at ‘changes that are going to knock the audience for six’.

Following last years’ onslaught of negative online abuse she said:’I’ll be turning off all sorts of bad language and sexual messages’

‘I have a social media team behind me this year and my son will be helping me filter it. Of course my mum and I live together, so I’ve got this little soul to bounce off, so I’m not worried about it this year at all’.

Going on to say: ‘I think I’ve come to an understanding more about social media and the characters of people that are on social media, but don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of good people, and I had a lot of support, particularly from the BBC’.
