Will Smith issues apology to Chris Rock

Jada Pinkett Smith has seen a lot in her long career in showbiz, but witnessing her husband Will Smith slap Chris Rock across the face on live TV at the 2022 Oscars takes the cake.

After more than a year, she’s broken her silence and opened up about the incident in an interview with People and in her new book Worthy.

Will, 55, stormed on stage to hit Rock after the actor made a joke about Jada’s shaved head (she lives with alopecia – an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss).

Rock, 58, said: “Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it.”

The actress, 52, rolled her eyes at the comment and Will seemed to smile at first until he realized what the comedian had said, desciding to slap him in front of the entire room and millions of viewers.

Rock said: “Oh wow! Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me.”

The actress explained: “I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him.’ It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”

Then, once she was alone with her husband after the show, she uttered the only words she could think of: “Are you okay?”

The answer isn’t exactly clear, but a work in progress, and Jada has written about it in her new book Worthy, out on October 17.

She added: “I’m going to be by his side, but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”

However, Jada also dropped a bombshell to People on her relationship with Will.

She revealed that they have been separated for seven years, since 2016.
