Jenna Ortega ‘devastated’ as original Wednesday actress dies

Jenna Ortega paid a sweet tribute to Lisa Loring, the original Wednesday Addams, who passed away aged 64.

On Saturday, Lisa’s daughter, Vanessa Foumberg, announced that her mother had passed away in hospital following complications she experienced from a stroke caused by high blood pressure.

Following the news, Netflix’s own Wednesday took to Instagram, where she shared a picture of Lisa as Wednesday alongside the caption: “Absolutely devastated. Thank you for everything.”

Lisa was the first to play the iconic character in The Addams Family sitcom from 1964 to 1966, with a total of 64 episodes under her belt.

She also reprised the role in the live-action adaptation of Charles Addams’ New Yorker cartoons.

Jenna, 20, who recently spoke about season two of her hit show, had previously spoken about incorporating some of Lisa’s legendary moves in her own dance routine that became a viral success following the release of the eight-part Netflix series last year.

“I knew there were certain things I wanted to do. I paid homage to Lisa Loring, the first Wednesday Addams,” she previously said.

“I did a little bit of her shuffle that she does. Of course, they cut out of camera when I did do it, but it’s there! I know it is!”

Outside of the iconic gothic black and white series, Lisa appeared in other projects like Doctor Spine, Way Down in Chinatown, Savage Harbor, Bloody Frenzy and Barnaby Jones.

Vanessa announced the tragic news and explained: “She went peacefully with both her daughters [Vanessa and Marianne] holding her hands.”

Lisa’s close friend Laure Jacobson also said: "It is with great sadness that I report the death of our friend, Lisa Loring. 4 Days ago she suffered a massive stroke brought on by smoking and high blood pressure.

"She had been on life support for 3 days. Yesterday, her family made the difficult decision to remove it and she passed last night.

"She is embedded in the tapestry that is pop culture and in our hearts always as Wednesday Addams.

"Beautiful, kind, a loving mother, Lisa’s legacy in the world of entertainment is huge. And the legacy for her family and friends — a wealth of humor, affection and love will long play in our memories,” she added.

"RIP, Lisa. Damn, girl…you were a ton of fun."
