Jennifer Lawrence had a unique post-premiere ritual with her Hunger Games costars, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
In a new interview with The New York Times, the Causeway actress candidly spoke of the way she bonded with her onscreen love interests.
Reflecting on the intensity of the swarms of paparazzi and fans who would take over the red-carpet events for the beloved dystopian film franchise, Lawrence told the newspaper she and her fellow cast members had to find a way to cope.
“So the boys and I would always go back to our hotel and just drink whiskey and get stoned,” she said, adding, “My mother-in-law’s going to love this. I don’t do it anymore, I’m a mom!“
Lawrence, who recently welcomed a baby boy with husband Cooke Maroney, also examined the ways that fame has changed her life—for better or for worse.
“I was born with the name Jennifer Lawrence, but that got taken from me when I was 21 and I never got it back,” the Oscar-winning actress said. “So it didn’t feel like I was giving up anything. That name already belongs to them.”
When asked to visualize who exactly Jennifer Lawrence is, she answered, “Jennifer Lawrence is Katniss Everdeen, I guess. Is that weird?”
Still, Lawrence doesn’t regret becoming the leading lady of The Hunger Games, the movies that ended up catapulting her career into superstardom.
“Those movies were fantastic,” she said. “The only thing that gave me pause was just how famous it would make me.”
