Jimmy Buffet performs ‘Come Monday’ in 1983

Jimmy Buffett has died at the age of 76 following health struggles.

The legendary singer recently had to take a break from performing after being hospitalised repeatedly.

Along with his impressive musical legacy, Jimmy reportedly leaves behind a $1billion fortune.

The sad news of his death was announced by his family on Instagram in a poignant statement.

The post featured an image of Jimmy relaxing on a boat alongside the words: “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.

“He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”

The Margaritaville singer leaves behind his wife, Jane Slagsvol, and three children: Savannah, Sarah, and Cameron.

Prior to his 1977 marriage to Jane, Jimmy was married Margie Washichek from 1969 to 1972.

Before his tragic death, the musician had been in and out of hospital for months, after first being admitted in May.

Jimmy’s hospital dash forced him to postpone a Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band concert in Charleston, South Carolina.

The star spoke out on his health struggles on his website and social media pages at the time.

He wrote: “Two days ago, I was just back from a trip to the Bahamas, thawing out from the California ‘winter tour,’ and chomping at the bit to get to Charleston.

“I had to stop in Boston for a check-up but wound up back in the hospital to address some issues that needed immediate attention.”

He concluded: “Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you.

“Thank you for your prayers and thoughts, your amazing years of loyalty, and just remember, ‘NOT YET!'”

Jimmy managed to return to the stage in July, as he surprised crowds in Portsmouth, Rhode Island with a performance at Sunset Cove, a waterfront bar.

Before his death, the singer was busy preparing to release a new album, entitled Songs You Don’t Know by Heart.

During Jimmy’s impressive career, he released 50 albums is best known for his hit singles Margaritaville, Come Monday, and Cheeseburger in Paradise.
