Comedian and OK! 's beloved columnist Judi Love has hinted that she may be in the running to become Love Island's brand new host.
Writing in her column this week, Judi also gives her verdict on Anthony Joshua's heavyweight defeat controversy, and doses out the rundown from her rum-drinking, hip-swinging weekend at Notting Hill Carnival. As well as this, Judi has her say on the case of Owami Davies, who thankfully was found by police last week after having been missing for over a month. Goodbye, Laura!
I was shocked to hear Laura Whitmore has stepped down from her role as Love Island host. Since Laura joined the dating show in 2020, she has received mixed reviews, which is a real shame when we remember why Laura took the job in the first place.
It would’ve been difficult for Laura to step into the shoes of her close friend Caroline Flack after she tragically passed away. Laura also admitted on Instagram that she’d only planned to be there for one series.
While making the announcement, Laura also said she hoped she’d made her late friend “proud”. You definitely did, Laura.
The question on everybody’s lips now is… who’s next?! I’ve seen a lot of tweets suggesting Maya Jama, who would be a fabulous host, and a couple of tweets suggesting I do it! Watch this space…
Punch in the stomach
Boxer Anthony Joshua unfortunately lost his heavyweight title fight against Oleksandr Usyk last week. His disappointment on the night was clear to see after he threw the belts out of the ring and gave a passionate speech, which some have argued stole the winner’s moment.
Since then, however, Anthony has apologised for his reaction and has taken accountability for his behaviour.
I now believe we should take a moment to recognise that this behaviour is out of character for him and that, like everyone, the pressures of our work can sometimes get the better of us. Continuing to attack his behaviour online will only drag this situation out further.
I hope Anthony will take this time to heal.
Good vibes
Notting Hill Carnival returned on the weekend for the first time in two years! The atmosphere and energy in London was electric, with all the people dancing in the streets, eating good food and enjoying the celebratory vibes with their loved ones.
I partied hard! I moved my hips, wore flat shoes and (thankfully) lined my stomach with delicious Caribbean cuisine so that the Jamaican white rum didn’t hit me too hard!
I hope everyone else enjoyed an incredible weekend – bring on next year!
Thinking of Owami
Last week, it was confirmed that Owami Davies had thankfully been found alive and well in Hampshire, after having been missing since 7 July.
Like many, I’m relieved the student nurse is safe, but I’m equally concerned about the inconsistent information the police gave out during the period of her disappearance.
It has been reported that they even used the wrong photographs of her during the search appeal. This in itself – being mistaken for another Black individual – is a long-standing issue, but to make a mistake like that when there’s a young girl’s life at risk is terrible.
I hope that Owami and her family are receiving the support they need, and I hope this case will draw more attention to why Black disappearances do not get enough mainstream attention.
