Kate Garraway revealed husband Derek Draper is currently battling a “nasty chest infection”.

The Good Morning Britain presenter joined her colleagues Ben Shephard, Laura Tobin and Dr Hilary Jones at the best Heroes Awards 2023 which celebrates 11 ordinary people, who have done extraordinary things in unthinkable circumstances.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, the 56 year old said her husband has been unwell in recent days but is trying to pull through.

“He’s got a really nasty chest infection and a couple of other infections but he is on antibiotics,” Kate shared.

The news comes after the broadcaster has battled a tough few years after Derek contracted Covid in March 2020 and was rushed to hospital and put in intensive care and, later, a coma.

He came home from hospital 13 months after first being admitted, in April 2021, but has required round-the-clock care ever since.

Kate has won accolades for her documentary Caring for Derek which was filmed after he was finally allowed to return to the family home.
