Last year was a historic yet turbulent time for the royal family.
Between the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September following her 70-year reign and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell Netflix documentary, there were plenty of headline making moments.
But royal expert Katie Nicholl says the Princess of Wales will play a key part in bringing “stability and continuity” to the monarchy in 2023.
And one person who recognises how important Kate and her new role as Princess of Wales are to this is her father-in-law, King Charles III.
“She has a close relationship with her father-in-law,” Katie exclusively tells OK!. “There is a huge amount of warmth between them and mutual respect, and I know Charles feels very lucky to have Kate as part of the family.
“He absolutely recognises and appreciates what she brings. She is a huge asset and no one sees that more than the King.
"It’s a period when there’s been a lot of flux and transition for the royal family and I think promoting that image of continuity and stability is going to be the focus for this year.”
Katie, author of The New Royals, also say mother-of-three Kate will be a key role in Charles’ coronation in May with her husband Prince William.
“The prominence Kate and William are going to play in the coronation is going to be very important,” Katie tells us. “It will be a new defining image of the future of the monarchy of which William and Kate hold a very pivotal position.
“They have these two very new and high-profile roles and there is more responsibility and pressure on them.”
Katie’s comments come after she told us William is “absolutely apoplectic” about his brother’s Netflix docuseries and the claims made against him and the royal family.
These include Harry claiming William “screamed and shouted” at him and Charles lied during a meeting about himself and Meghan wanting to take a step back from royal duties at Sandringham.
Further comments also include the pair saying Harry was “blocked” from seeing his grandmother The Queen and Meghan claiming she “wasn’t allowed” to go anywhere to get help for her suicidal thoughts. "They were worried about how it would look for the institution," she said.
Katie told us: “I think it was pretty shocking to see Harry attack his brother in such a public way.
"I think the one of the most damaging claims in all this is William’s outburst and how Harry was allegedly terrorised by William shouting.
“I know from sources close to the Prince of Wales that he is absolutely apoplectic about what Harry has done and feels deeply betrayed, very hurt and very angry.”
