Katie Piper has been keeping fans updated with her recovery after she underwent surgery in hospital to 'save her eye'.
The proud mum, 40, has now shared a heartfelt photo of the moment her adorable six-year-old daughter gave her the biggest, comforting cuddle after the procedure.
The Loose Women panellist shared a selection of photos of herself in hospital as she detailed how she still finds it "mentally hard" to be reminded of her acid attack ordeal in a candid post.
But the mum-of-two appeared to be in high spirits on Thursday as she continued her recovery at home – and even put the Christmas decorations up to surprise her little ones and lift her spirits.
Katie shared an adorable photo as one of her little girls jumped onto her lap for a big hug in hospital. The model and activist shares daughters Belle, nine, and Penelope, six, with her partner Richard James Sutton.
Katie was attacked with acid by her ex-boyfriend and an accomplice in March 2008, causing major damage to her face and blindness in one eye. She has since founded The Katie Piper Foundation and campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness of acid attacks.
Katie shared: "This is me! (For now) On Tuesday I had a planned operation, a Tarsorrhaphy to my left eye. Tarsorrhaphy is the joining of part or all of the upper and lower eyelids so as to partially or completely close the eye.
"Temporary tarsorrhaphies are used to help the cornea heal or to protect the cornea during a short period of exposure or disease. I’ve also had scar tissue operated on on my right eye, so that will also be slightly swollen."
"I wanted to put this here for a few reasons: Firstly to educate that living with the kind of injures I have means things will change through out your life and sometimes things go backwards. There isn’t really an end point and part of this kind of recovery is acceptance of that," Katie wrote.
She added: "Secondly with a disfigurement surgical decisions have to be based around function not aesthetics. In my case I am am trying to preserve the eye, avoid perforation and loosing my eye completely. Also just because something is on view permanently it doesn’t give people the right to constantly comment on your appearance- you never know what’s going on in someone’s life."
Katie then candidly admitted: "Also, if this helps anyone else…. yes I do sometimes find it hard. I’m ok with looking different to everyone else but operations can sometimes take me back to memories of how this all started and that’s hard mentally."
She finished off by asking trolls not to target her as she recovers before thanking her eye surgeon for helping her "all these years".
Then on Thursday, Katie admitted her children were desperate to have the Christmas decorations up and they were so excited about Christmas.
So she told her followers how her partner had got all the decorations out from of the garage and she got to work assembling and decorating their three trees. She explained that she wanted to surprise her daughters when they arrived home from school.
She admitted she felt "quite spritely", despite only being days out of surgery, and doing the decorations was making her feel excited and Christmassy.
In another Instagram story, she admitted she was "doing good" and a "bit swollen" but that she'd kept herself busy all day finishing the tree.
She then sat in front of her beautifully decorated tree to share her dally affirmation: '"I will live every day to the fullest".
