Kerry Katona hits back at ‘5×3 mum’ label as she says dads are treated differently

Kerry Katona has hit back at the "5×3 mum" label, saying that dads are treated differently.

Kerry, 42, discussed female sexuality after Meghan Markle spoke out, saying women are more vilified than men.

In the latest episode of podcast Archetypes, Meghan said: "I don’t understand what it is about the stigma surrounding women and their sexuality and the exploration of their sexuality that is so much more vilified than for a man."

She added: "A man, if he is a player, out having fun or whatever he’s doing, it’s often celebrated. Even heralded. But for a woman, I don’t care if she’s perhaps the most successful woman in finance in her mid-50s, I promise you, someone will still go, ‘But she was such a sl*t in college.'”

The Atomic Kitten star has now said: "I totally agree. I get called a “5×3 mum” but nobody says anything about the dads. I’m the one bringing up the kids, yet I’m the one getting derogatory remarks.

"It is interesting how women are treated differently. I didn’t grow up thinking that I wanted five children by three different men, but that’s how life worked out."

She continued: "We all grow up watching Disney films, but that’s not realistic. Everyone deserves a happy ever after and it doesn’t matter how you get there."

Kerry was married to Boyzlife singer Brian McFadden from 2002 to 2006 and the pair share two children together – Molly, 21, and Lilly-Sue, 19.

Her second husband was taxi driver Mark Croft. The pair were married from 2007 to 2011 and share Heidi, 15, and Max, 14.

Kerry then tied the knot with former rugby league player George Kay in 2014, the father of her eight-year-old Dylan-Jorge. George passed away in 2019 after a drugs overdose.

Kerry previously joked she has to “Google” her previous husbands and asks her five children: “Which is your dad?”

Her comments came as she appeared on BBC podcast Wheel of Misfortune and discussed sex toys with host Alison Spittle and comedian Rachel Fairburn in August.

Kerry said: “With my third husband I was really experimental, mind you I’ve been experimental with a lot of people. I’ve had that many husbands I can’t keep up, I’ve got to Goggle it half the time.

“I say to the kids: ‘Which is your dad?’ Honest to God, Father’s Day at my house you can’t get a car parking space, it’s a nightmare honestly.”

Kerry is currently engaged to personal trainer Ryan Mahoney, who she met on dating app Bumble.

The couple got engaged in 2020 and are planning to tie the knot in Las Vegas.

Kerry has spoken about wanting a baby with Ryan, with the pair looking into surrogacy.

However, she recently reveled they want to move house and get married before adding to their brood.

She told us last month: “I got my eggs tested and I’ve got eight spares, which is really good news. Ryan also did his sperm sample yesterday, so we’re waiting to get the results from that.

“The next stage will be a meeting with the consultants to find out what we do next! We don’t want it to all be happening right this second but we’re making sure we have our embryos so we do have the option to go down this route. We’d like to move house first and get married.”
