Line Of Duty ‘to return with three-part festive special’ episodes

Hit series Line Of Duty is returning for a three-part festive special next year, it has been revealed.

Stars Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure and Martin Compston are all said to have signed up, with an insider telling The Sun: “There’s a strong feeling that there was unfinished business.”

The exciting new development comes after many fans were left disappointed by the last episode, which finally exposed Ian Buckells as the elusive H.

“Viewers weren’t satisfied with the ending of series six and were crying out for a more sensational conclusion — now Jed can deliver that," they continued.

“The fact that they’re looking at taking the unusual step of making three episodes rather than the usual six or seven is a reflection of just how special this is for the show.”

The news comes just a day after Vicky McClure hinted that there might be new episodes in the making.

She told Good Morning Britain on Tuesday: “I speak to the lads all the time and we’d all love to, we’re all game.

“I think it’s just a case of now . . . Martin, I think he’s in about nine shows or something. He’s busy, so I’m sure we’ll get there.”

Adrian Dunbar also recently appeared on Good Morning Britain, where he revealed there's "every possibility" that new episodes will be in our future.

He said: "It's entirely down to Jed [Mercurio] and so we're keeping our fingers crossed.

"Within the next few weeks or couple of months, we might hear something."

When asked whether the story was finished, Adrian responded: "The story can continue, put it that way. In terms of the story finishing, I think was a really interesting ending, that's what reality is like. It's usually one guy. It's not a Mr. Big, it's just somebody along the line who decides to discard a piece of information and not make the call."

Martin Compson has also told recently told Radio Times: “I’m so chuffed that people want it back.

“But who knows? I’d love to work with the guys again. Adrian, Vicky and Jed are genuinely some of my closest friends.

“It’s been ten years together and we speak every other day, really.”
