Lord Of The Rings star says he is proud of his ‘nepo-baby’ status: ‘I don’t begrudge myself having been born into a family where I was given a lot’

One Lord of The Rings actor isn’t afraid to admit he hit the big time with the help of his famous parents.

Sean Astin, who plays Samwise Gamgee in the fictional hit, confessed that he never hides away from his ‘nepo-baby’ status.

When asked how he found success in Hollywood, he always answers with one word – nepotism. 

The actor, who is the son of Academy Award winner Patty Duke and the step son of The Addams Family star John Astin, confessed their stardom helped kick start his career.

His acting debut came in 1998 when he was cast alongside his mother at the age of 8 in Please Don’t Hit Me, Mom.

The actor has bagged numerous iconic roles, including the role of hobbit Samwise Gamgee in the billion dollar franchise

Although the Stranger Things actor affirmed his nepotism title was true – he doesn’t feel guilty about his journey to fame.

He told Page Six: ‘Life is hard, work is hard. Finding your way in the world is hard. So when people have some good fortune, I don’t begrudge that. 

‘And I don’t begrudge myself having been born into a family where I was given a lot,’ 

The Goonies actor admitted that he felt being born and given such advantages came with a great deal of responsibility which you could opt ‘to embrace or not’. 

He also joked about being categorized as a ‘nepo baby’, quipping: ‘So yeah … you know … [you] nailed it. Got it in one!’

Although the actor had a helping hand, his career has stood the test of time, appearing in four films that have garnered icon status.

At the age of 13 Sean featured as Mikey in 1985 blockbuster hit, The Goonies, as well as Rudy in the emotional American football film of the same name.

Notably he starred hobbit, Samwise, in The Lord Of The Rings franchise, which as a whole made $2,991 billion.

More recently, he played Joyce Byers’ (Winona Ryder) sweet partner Bob Newby in the second season of Stranger Things.

The actor also expressed how he is always keen to improve, noting how he often attends Comic Con to take hear feedback from fans, to whom he was ‘grateful’.

The 52-year-old confessed he easily connects with others, something he attributed to his mother, Patty Duke.

He reminisced how easily the starlet could communicate with others, labelling it as ‘so disarming’.

Sean is set to appear on the big screen once more in his latest film The Shift, which centres around Gabriel – a man who is cast into a parallel Earth and is trying to return to the woman he is in love with.

The actor said he decided to take up the role because the plot shows how different your life can be based on the decisions you make.

He hopes viewers will come along for the post-apocalyptic experience and come away with a ‘hopeful message’.  

The Shift is currently showing in theatres.
