Lorraine Kelly shares heartbreak as elderly mother is rushed to hospital

Lorraine emotional after Mum sends Christmas message

Lorraine Kelly has revealed that her mother, Anne, 81, has been hospitalised in Airdrie, Scotland.

The TV presenter informed her followers that she had travelled to be by her mother’s bedside and thanked NHS workers for taking care of her.

She tweeted: “Having spent a lot of time over the past few days with my mum in @UHMonklands hospital I’ve seen again just how kind, caring, hard working, funny and downright fabulous our NHS workers are ‘thank you’ doesn’t begin to cover it.” (sic)

Lorraine did not share any further details about her mum’s condition.

Anne was also hospitalised in February this year after she was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, a condition that stops the kidneys from functioning properly.

Heartbreakingly, Lorraine previously said that her mum was “very active and independent” before she became ill.

The 63-year-old wrote for Hello! Magazine: “She loved going to her book club and exercise classes and was learning German, so it was hard for her to be on strong medication and not be able to do as much as before.”

Following her tweet on Monday night, Lorraine has been inundated with support from her friends and fans.

ITV regular Dr Amir Khan penned: “Sending you all lots of love.”

Karen Goudie, the chief of nursing at the hospital caring for Anne, said: “Thank you @reallorraine this means so much to our teams. Hope you are ok.”

While Roslyn lamented: “We’ve reached that age when we now become the carers of our carers. Lots of love.”

And Gill wrote: “Lorraine, you speak for myself and all my family with your experience. They’re all so dedicated.

“You’re right though, thank you doesn’t seem enough but no doubt is appreciated. I hope your Mum is ok.”
