Love Island’s Gemma and Luca split rumours addressed after Paige’s cryptic comments

Gemma Owen and Luca Bish's relationship is far from over, according to sources who have spoken out following the rumours of a split.

The couple’s Love Island co-star Paige Thorne sparked rumours things weren’t going well for their pair earlier this week when she hinted that one couple from this summer’s serieswere ‘faking’ their relationship .

After leaving the ITV2 dating show earlier this year, some fans originally questioned whether the pair were the real deal after they refused to maketheir relationship official until several weeks after leaving the villa.

But an inside source has hit back at the claims that the couple are in any trouble, saying things between Gemma, 19, and Luca, 23, are going from “strength to strength”.

A source close to the couple said: “There is lots of talk and rumours about a showmance amongst this year's contestants but it certainly isn't Luca and Gemma that everyone is talking about.

Speaking toThe Mirror , they continued: “Luca and Gemma are closer than ever, they don't feel the need to ham it up on social media every day.

“Both have lots going on but they're staying together most nights and when they do have to be apart, they are constantly on the phone with each other.”

Gemma and Luca previously explained that their decision to delay officially becoming boyfriend and girlfriend had been due to Luca wishing to earn the approval and blessing from Gemma’s famous dad,Michael Owen , first.

Once he’d achieved the footballing pro’s blessing, Luca then formally asked Gemma to date him by presenting the star with a Cartier bracelet, much to the shock of many fans at home.

However, just a few months after this grand romantic gesture, rumours of a split began to swirl thanks to a fewcryptic hints dropped by fellow Islander Paige Thorne.

During an appearance on Grace Beverley's Saving Grace podcast, paramedic Paige was asked who she thought the "fakest couple" to leave the show was.

Without missing a beat, the Welsh beauty responded: "All I'm going to say on this right, there are how many couples left… there are three couples.

"But really, there are only two – but that's a secret I'll never tell.”

Immediately after the episode aired, fans raced to social media to share their thoughts and began to speculate about which couple was “fake” – with Gemma and Luca being one of the most popular theories being shared.

"I think Dami & Indiyah & Tasha & Andrew are the two still together,” wrote one fan.

"I think she probably forgot there are 4 couples I don’t think there are 2 fake ones only 1 fake couple," commented another.

Another eagle eyed fan had also noticed how Gemma and Luca weren’t posting as often on their social media accounts together, adding further fuel to the theory.

Commenting on Luca’s instagram account, one fan wrote: "I reckon they've broken up as they barely post each other anymore nor comment as they used to."

"@gemowen_1 are you still with Luca?" asked another.

And over on Gemma's page a third fan quizzed: "@lucabish are you still with Gemma?”

Earlier this month, Gemma, 19, told OK ! that she and Luca are “so happy” despite living apart.

She explained: “We’re living separately, but it’s fine.

“Whenever we’re free, he’ll either come up to Cheshire or I’ll go down to Brighton.”

She added: “If we’re both busy in London, we’ll always find time [to see each other]. But at the moment I’m still in Cheshire because I’ve got everything there.”

OK! has reached out to Gemma and Luca’s reps for comment.
