Love Island star Molly Marsh's mum has hit back at ‘trolls’ who claim her daughter gets preferential treatment on the show because of her mum’s relationship with ITV.
Molly’s mum, Janet, has played three different roles on ITV’s popular soap Coronation Street including a nurse, receptionist, and ITU nurse.
But Janet has slammed the ‘narrative’ that her theatre performer daughter was only given a place on the show because of her industry connections.
She also hit out at viewers complaining that Molly was given an ‘advantage’ after being allowed to return to Casa Amor despite being previously dumped from the show.
The 49-year-old, who now works as a school teacher as well as doing acting on the side, told the Daily Mail how she thought it was ‘ridiculous that people are ‘twisting’ her small parts on TV.’
She said: “Just because I have done three small parts on Coronation Street years ago now – and I am really proud of those little parts – it takes a lot of hard work to get the audition and the job, and I've never filmed for more than a day.
“I am happy being a teacher and doing my small acting roles as and when they come up.
"But I didn't want that to impact Molly's position on Love Island in case the public started to believe I was an ITV producer.”
Janet, who has also bagged parts on shows like Still Open All Hours, Where The Heart Is, and In The Dark, went on to say that she has suffered ‘many sleepless nights’ because of how bad the trolling has been towards Molly and her family.
She hit out at those leaving ‘nasty comments’ about her daughter and accused some viewers of making up rumours about her being an ITV producer that is ‘pulling strings.’
Janet also addressed the backlash that Molly received after she was given a second chance on the show, despite being sent home after Kady McDermott, 27, stole her partner Zachariah Noble, 25, leaving her single and dumped from the island.
ITV was hit with almost 400 official complaints after their decision to bring her back to Casa Amor, with many saying that it was unfair that she got to see her family and was given her the unfair advantage of knowing the public perception of her.
But Janet had defended Molly, saying she spent 'just six hours with her daughter' before she was hurried back to the island, meaning she didn’t have time ‘to watch any episodes.’
She claimed that all Molly had time to do when she landed back in the UK was ‘start packing again’.
