Britains Got Talent dog star that left audience in tears dies as tributes paid

BGT: Heroic police dog Finn moves the Judges to tears in 2019

Brave Britain’s Got Talent canine star Finn has died at the age of 14.

Dave Wardell and the German Shephard – a retired police dog – wowed the ITV show’s judges in 2019 and won a place in the final.

During their first audition, the former said he had been his “best friend” since a puppy, before detailing how Finn was severely injured while protecting him.

The Thin Paw Foundation, a national charity supporting serving and retired police dogs, broke the sad news online.

They wrote: “We’re deeply sad to announce the passing of our Ambassador, Retired Police Dog Finn at the age of 14.

“He leaves a huge legacy behind, having saved the life of his handler PC Dave Wardell on duty, whilst he himself had been stabbed multiple times.”

The tribute continued: “Following his recovery, Finn and Dave then went on to campaign for Finn’s law which gave greater protection for service animals across the United Kingdom.

“Our thoughts are with Finn’s family at this very difficult time.

“Finn, your legacy will live on, may you stand down with pride. RIP Finn, 2009-2023.”
