Love Islands Olivia Bowen admits she ‘mourned’ former life after son’s birth

Love Island star Olivia Bowen has confessed that she “mourned” the person she was before welcoming her son Abel, now six months.

The 28 year old welcomed the little one with her husband and former co-star Alex Bowen back in June.

And Olivia says she had to adapt to the new person she had become as a mum after struggling with her new identity at first.

She exclusively told OK! in a candid interview: “I think I was so worried about my life changing and I thought I’d miss the person I was before, and I definitely mourned who I was.

“I never thought I’d become this person. I was really scared to become a mum. When people called me mum when I first had him, it felt really alien to me as I wasn’t ready, but now I feel like I’m happy to call myself mum and step into that role.”

She continued: “You just come into your own and become this new person because you feel completely different.

"I think you change as a person inside and out for the rest of your life.

“For anyone to say you can go back to who you were before, you don’t, you’re still you but you become this new version of yourself.”

The reality star also admits becoming a mum has changed hers and Alex’s relationship, which began during the second series of Love Island in 2016 and saw them tie the knot in a ceremony exclusively covered by OK! in 2018.

“Becoming parents has definitely changed the dynamic of our relationship,” she explains.

“We were both the first port of call in each other’s lives and now Abel comes first and you have to take a back seat. It’s really hard at first and we did bicker about little things.”

But even with the hard times, the mum-of-one says that becoming parents has ultimately strengthened their relationship.

She said: “We had to learn to communicate like we’d never communicated before, but it definitely puts you in a stronger position in your relationship because you become this family unit.”

Olivia announced the news of Abel’s arrival on her Instagram account with a sweet snap of herself cradling her baby boy and gazing down at him as husband Alex, 31, who is now a DJ, places an arm around her shoulders.

“Abel Jacob Bowen. You are everything. 10/06/22,” she wrote.
