Mary Berry shares her tips for a perfect Victoria Sponge

Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry spoke candidly about Kate, Princess of Wales at the Pride Of Britain Awards held on Monday night. The baker had nothing but praise for Kate as she addressed her connection to the royal’s mum, Carole Middleton.

The 87-year-old took to the red carpet and dished on baking with members of the Royal Family, including Kate’s mum.

Speaking about the new Princess of Wales, she said: “She was absolutely wonderful and lovely, she is a good baker.”

“Her mother is a good baker and she wants to do things well – she does it with a smile and she’s a really good mum,” Mary told the Daily Star.

The former Great British Bake Off judge Mary teamed up with the former Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for a special one-off show in 2019.

A Berry Royal Christmas saw Kate test out her baking skills as the pair spoke about the joys of cooking.

But there was one line, in particular, that caught the attention of viewers watching at home, as Mary holding a piping bag filled with cream, jokingly asked Kate: “Do you want to have a squirt on a cake?”

Kate laughed in response to Mary’s innuendo and replied: “Can you show me how to do it first?”

Her comments came after the duo prepared cupcakes for their guests.
