Matt Hancock has opened up about his “wonderful” reunion with girlfriend Gina Coladangelo after spending three weeks Down Under during his stint in theI’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.
The 44 year old MP shocked viewers after his late appearance on the hit ITV show and, despite being a controversial booking among his campmates, seemingly wowed fans and made it all the way to the grand final.
And now the former health secretary has reflected on his time in the jungle, admitting toMailOnline that his time on reality show I’m A Celeb “hasn’t been easy”.
During an interview with the publication, Matt gushed over his relationship with Gina and said: “It was wonderful to see Gina on the bridge, it hasn't been easy.”
'It hasn't been easy for me or those that I love and I don't seek sympathy because I brought it on myself. But it was wonderful to see her.”
The politician also used the interview to ask “for forgiveness” afterCCTV images were released in 2021 of the pair embracing in his Whitehall department despite both being married to other people at the time and despite social distancing guidelines being in place.
Following the revelation, Matt resigned from his role as health secretary and ended his 15-year long marriage to his ex-wife Martha.
During his time on the show, the MP opened up about his affair with Gina after his fellow campmate Babatúndé Aléshémocked him for "grabbing booty".
Speaking of the incident, Matt admitted that he had “messed up” though explained that he had “fell in love” with Gina.
In response, Babatúndé said: “You didn’t just ‘fell in love’ you were grabbing booty bruv!,” causing Matt to become flustered.
When asked if he and Gina were together, he added: “Yeah, very much so, yeah, totally. That’ll be the best thing about being kicked out, seeing her on the bridge.”
Throughout the show, Gina cheered on her beau from the sidelines andflew out to Australia in anticipation of Matt leaving the jungle.
After landing Down Under Gina was asked about him taking on a whopping number of trials, to which she said: “He is made of tough stuff, it is hard not to be impressed. But it is good they are sharing them round now.”
And despite him taking on the trials with a great deal of success, she admitted that “yes I have missed him” during his time on the show.
