Maya Jama ‘fighting for her life’ with horrific cold ahead of Love Island return

Maya Jama has said she is "fighting for her life" with a horrific cold, ahead of her first presenting stint on Love Island, which is back on our screens on 16 January.

The TV presenter, 28, has enjoyed a fun-filled festive season, spending Christmas with her family including younger brothers and her grandfather, before throwing a huge party at Koko nightclub in Camden on New Year's Eve for her pals.

It seems that all of her socialising has finally gotten her down, however, as she revealed that she was suffering from a cold as she shared a snap of hot water and lemon and a ginger shot to her Instagram stories.

Over the top of the picture, Maya wrote: "Fighting for my life with this cold now though lol I am down!"

Maya shared a video of the epic New Year's Eve party she threw, as she said: "Really didn't take no pics New Year's Eve. Was too busy shouting lyrics and sweating."

She then thanked the club for "helping with one of my favourite parties ever".

Maya is soon set to make her debut as Love Island's latest presenter, as she will be jetting out to South Africa, where the winter version is filmed.

She takes over the reins from Laura Whitmore, who sensationally quit the show after the summer season, after doing the role for three years.

Laura recently opened up on the real reason she left Love Island, as she said: "I couldn't say anything."

She told Psychologies magazine: "There was only so much I can do as a host – I couldn’t support them or not support them. I couldn’t say anything.

"So you kind of have to go quiet, and that was hard for me because I like to be able to have those conversations.

"If I could [have done] things the way I wanted to, I’d probably still be doing it."

After it was confirmed that Maya would be presenting the show, she said: "An excited Maya said: “I’ve always been such a massive Love Island fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows! I can’t wait to get into the Villa to meet all of the Islanders.”

Director of ITV Reality Programming and Acquisitions and Controller, Paul Mortimer said: “Finding a new host to follow the wonderful Laura Whitmore was never going to be easy. In Maya Jama though, we have another high profile fan of the show who’ll be a great addition to the Love Island family.

“Cool, charming and charismatic, I speak for us all when I say Maya will also bring a unique presenting style to the show, as did Laura and, of course, the very much missed Caroline Flack. We’re very pleased to have her on board.”
