A royal expert has said that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been subjected to “disturbingly violent threats” following their recent return to the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s unofficial biographer Omid Scobie revealed all in a new op-ed as he called for the couple to be provided with efficient security, after he claimed they received threats during their Platinum Jubilee trip in June.

Mr Scobie spoke of how he has also become victim to these alleged threats.

The biographer wrote on Yahoo News: “Sources tell me that during the Sussex family’s visit for the Platinum Jubilee (which they were given state security for as it was an official royal event), a number of credible threats were intercepted by authorities.

“I witness a lot myself, too. Thanks to a never-ending stream of false tabloid tales calling me the couple’s ‘close friend’ or ‘spokesman’, I regularly receive an extension of their online threats.”

Mr Scobie went into detail about the content of the claimed threats Meghan, 41, and Harry, 37, have been sent.

He continued: “The messages range from extreme racism to disturbingly violent scenes involving the likes of dismemberment, car accidents and rape. They always get forwarded to the police.”

His comments come after Meghan and Harry won a bid against the Home Office to re-evaluate security decisions for the pair and their two children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, for when they return to the UK.

Harry is legally fighting to have paid police protection for himself and his family whenever they visit from their home in California.

According to Forbes, Meghan and Harry’s current security detail could run up to £2.45 million a year, as they pay for physical guards, as well as cyber security and personnel investigating locations from them to travel to safely.

Despite the security and threat issues, it has been predicted that Harry might possibly return to the Royal Family in the UK once his father, Prince Charles, becomes King.

Speaking on the Mirror's Pod Save the Queen podcast, Ken Wharfe, said: “I just cannot see [Meghan and Harry] forever more living in California.

“It's clear to me that Harry is not quite a fish out of sea — I mean he is getting involved in charitable work and he has these attachments to Netflix and other companies but quite where they'll end up we don't know.

“But I just think his involvement with his military charities — quite how he runs that on the other side of the Atlantic, I don't know.

Mr Wharfe controversially added: “But I just have this feeling that he could well be back in a new role — with or without Meghan.”
