The teaser sees Asda staff in a break room disturbed by a gurgling as the clock ticks to midnight.
Journeying through a festive warehouse, below, to find the sound’s source, they reach a door marked “MB inside. Do not open til 1.11.23.”
It swings open to show a silhouette of the platinum-selling superstar who turns to the camera and breaks into his hit It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas before grinning and asking: “Shall we?”
Michael – who duetted with acting and singing legend Barbra Streisand on It Had To Be You in 2014 – is making his debut as the supermarket’s latest seasonal recruit.
David Hills, Asda chief customer officer, said: “We absolutely love Christmas and this year we’re once again on a mission to bring that warm, festive feeling to households.”
He said Michael, 48, has an “undeniable ability to spread seasonal smiles”. Meanwhile, one in five adults already have a cupboard full of festive food, having stocked up.
Chocolate, wine, pudding and stuffing are the items most often put away. The Aldi poll also found 35% of the 2,000 adults asked are aiming to cut their festive spend this year.
