Ever since Joseph Quinn’s guitar-shredding, Dungeons & Dragons-playing character Eddie Munson first appeared on screen in season four of Stranger Things, fans have been enamored with the charming metalhead. Since Eddie’s untimely death at the claws of the Demobats, internet theorists have been speculating that the Munson may make an appearance in season five. Specifically, as Venca’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) second in command. Now, the queen of Stranger Things Millie has spoken on the idea of Eddie’s return in the final installment.
In an interview with ET, Brown admitted that “it’s a good fan theory,” while keeping her lips sealed on the plot line of season five.
ICYMI, according to a popular theory a member of the subreddit r/FanTheories posited, Eddie could become infected by Vecna or The Upside Down, mirroring the transformation and position of Kas, an immortal vampire and a warrior that betrayed Vecna in the D&D game lore.“Eventually, with Eddie’s new life he will gain his free will and resist Vecna just like Kas from D&D, as a character Kas can be called upon for help in-game, so too will Eddie help the protagonists of Stranger Things,” the user theorized.
ST fans on Twitter added fuel to the theory, with one user writing “I still stand by my theory that the “Master of Puppets” song wasn’t in reference to Eddie becoming the master to the bats but Vecna becoming the master of Eddie and using him like a puppet next season. He’d be the perfect vessel because the party loves him. Which makes them weak.”
While even Eleven seems to think the revival of Eddie is a good theory, she admitted that it’s not the first time a character she loved has been killed off on the show.
“Yeah, it sucks sometimes,” the actress said. “I loved Billy. I loved Dacre Montgomery, who was killed off in season 3. I had a really good relationship with him, so for me, it was really hard to let go of that.”
Montgomery played the hotheaded older brother of Max (Sadie Sink). As a vessel for the Mind Flayer, Billy gathered the citizens of Hawkins and help the supernatural force assemble a fleshy form. Billy was then killed by the Flayer during the Battle of Starcourt Mall when he sacrificed himself to help Eleven defeat The Upside Down creature.
Brown also added that she “had a really good relationship with Papa,” who was portrayed by Matthew Modine, saying it “was really hard” to see him die in season four.
While Millie said she hopes the Duffer brothers bring back Papa for the show’s final season according to ET, she expressed that she doesn’t know as much about the show’s plotlines as fans think she does.
“I really don’t know,” Millie said. “People say, ‘Oh, you can’t say too much, like don’t spoil it.’ I’m like, ‘Oh no, I wish I could spoil it for you, I don’t know anything.'”
