Stuart was able to head off into retirement feeling triumphant as he took the last two wickets to fall.

The sports star announced his retirement on Saturday following a stellar career.

He is England’s second most prolific Test bowler overall and fans will next see him join Sky Sports’ commentary team.

Speaking about his decision to retire, Stuart told the Mail On Sunday that he is now keen to spend more time at home with his family and be present in the life of his young daughter.

Writing in his column, he explained: “I am also a new dad to Annabella and I want to be one who is there to see her grow up.

“My partner Mollie has been awesome for my career: it got a whole lot better after we got together, thanks to her positive attitude to achieving success. I have thrived with her support.

“Now, though, it fills me with joy knowing that I have the two of them at home, and can spend more time with them.”
