Naga Munchetty ‘never wanted kids’ as she opens up on ‘selfish’ decision

Naga Munchetty speaking about her health condition

Naga Munchetty, 48, has opened up on her and her husband James Haggar’s desire to not have children amid the pair’s busy lifestyle.

The BBC Breakfast host says the couple has “never tried” to expand their family as they are happy living with their adorable Siamese cats.

Naga has recently been diagnosed with womb condition adenomyosis and she was told it “might get better” if she had children.

However, the television host explained to The Times: “We never tried and I never miscarried, we just never really wanted them.

“We kept putting the decision off, then life got better for us, we became more selfish . . . and just didn’t find the time.”

Naga has previously opened up about the couple’s decision not to have kids together, explaining that she never wanted them.

She told The Sun: “I remember when I told someone that I had decided I didn’t want children, someone told me I was wicked.

“Wicked against my mother for denying her grandchildren. It’s quite interesting, isn’t it, how people react.”

However now she is focusing on treating her Adenomyosis which causes heavy, prolonged periods, due to blood and tissue becoming trapped in the muscle lining of the womb.

It is different to the better-known but similar condition of endometriosis, where similar tissue grows outside the womb, in places such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes, but both cause period pain that is so bad that it has a severe impact on daily life.

Thankfully Naga has the unwavering support of James, who also works in television as a director and broadcast consultant.

The BBC Breakfast presenter is very close with her husband of nearly twenty years and previously revealed that he is a “proud feminist”.

She wrote in Glamour magazine: “My husband proudly declares himself a feminist, as do many of our friends, male and female – I think it’s very hard not to.”

Naga and James have been married since 2007, after dating for several years previously.

“James and I don’t row, and he’s a lovely, lovely man, he’s definitely the better half,” she said while discussing James on the Her Spirit podcast.

The pair live in Hertfordshire, and the presenter regularly shares pictures of them enjoying a round of golf or sharing a drink with friends.

She told The Guardian in 2016 that golf is key in their relationship.

She said: “It gives us a few hours together when we’re walking and talking and catching up; it really makes a difference.

“Golf takes you on a journey together, and it means you stay in touch with one another.”
