Neighbours actor Peter Hardy found dead on Australian beach

Neighbours actor Peter Hardy has been found dead in Australia at the age of 66.

Peter was sadly found dead on an Australian beach after drowning in Fremantle, near Perth, Western Australia, on Thursday.

The actor had travelled to Perth from London in order to visit his mother, according to local reports, and is believed to have been snorkelling at South Beach in Fremantle when he found himself in danger.

The exact circumstances of Peter's death are currently unknown.

At the beach in Perth, bystanders frantically attempted to save Peter's life by performing CPR until paramedics arrived on the scene. Unfortunately, emergency medics were unable to save his life and he died at the scene.

Peter's brother Michael confirmed to sad news on Friday 17 March in a heartbreaking statement shared on social media.

Michael wrote: "I'm devastated to say that my brother, Peter Hardy, passed away suddenly this morning.

"Rest in Peace my beloved little brother."

The actor was best known in Australia for roles in show's such as McLeod's Daughters and Chopper. He starred in three episodes of Neighbours as Jimmy Drane in 1997.

Tributes have been pouring in following Michael's announcement concerning Peter's sudden passing, with dozens paying tribute to the late star.

Peter's friend Ross Anderson wrote: "This news is such a heartbreaking shock. He'll be held in the wide arms of the ocean he grow up beside, and in the hearts of all those he welcomed into his vital and witty orbit. Sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues."

Another friend said: "On the morning of March 16th a dear friend was taken from us… the amazing and beautiful Peter Hardy drowned while snorkelling at South Beach Perth.

"He was 66 years old and looked like a Greek god, so fit, and so happy to be back in his native WA visiting from London where he had made his home.

"Words cannot express how deeply I feel this loss, We've been close friends since living together in Neutral Bay Sydney in the mid 80s."
