Neighbours star Ian Smith sparks concern with mysterious bruise

What happened to Harold’s face? Neighbours star Ian Smith sparks concern with mysterious bruise at post office protest

Former Neighbours star Ian Smith has sparked concern after sporting what appeared to be a bruise on his face this week.

The 83-year-old, who played Harold Bishop on the beloved Australian soap, had the marking on the side of his face, right next to his mouth.

Smith was spotted with the blemish while attending a protest to prevent the closing of a 136-year-old Australia Post office in Glenroy from being closed.

Clearly frustrated with the looming closure, Smith told 9News that it was ‘so wrong’.

‘Come on, let’s save this post office!’ he blustered to a reporter.

His appearance shocked viewers, with one tweeting, ‘Is that Harold?’

Another fan jokingly brought up Smith’s stint as Harold on Neighbours, writing that the actor, ‘should speak to Mayor Lou Carpenter. He’s still got strong connections in Erinsborough.’

It comes after news that Smith will reprise his iconic role as Harold in Amazon’s upcoming Neighbours reboot.

The 83-year-old was spotted on the Ramsay Street location in May breathing new life into the character he played for 28 years.

He looked elated to be back on the Neighbours set as he smiled alongside Australian actor Scott Major, who has also previously starred in the soap as Lucas Fitzgerald.

Last July, filming for the iconic Australian soap wrapped up after 37 years.

It was cancelled as it failed to find a new broadcaster after Channel 5 dropped the long-running soap for its UK audience.

However, just months after a reunion episode was aired that included iconic stars such as Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, it was announced that the soap would be coming back after a new broadcaster was found.

The new series will now air for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US and will include streaming rights to thousands of episodes from previous seasons.

In Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, it will stream on Prime Video.
