Olivia Rodrigo has released her second album GUTS!
The 20-year-old entertainer dropped the 12-track LP on Friday (September 8), which includes the previously released singles “vampire” and “bad idea right?”
Ever since the album dropped, fans of course immediately started dissecting the lyrics, and in a new interview about the album, Olivia opened up about what and who the new songs are about.

“Lots of the time I write something that’s kind of like an amalgamation of lots of different people, or I write a lot of songs out of fantasy sometimes too,” she said on SiriusXM Hits 1. “I think something that I’m really proud of on this record [GUTS], too, is that lots of the songs are more about growing up than they are about breakups or falling in love or anything. It’s just very much me becoming a young adult. And so it’s very introspective.”
In another interview with Zane Lowe on New Music Daily on Apple Music 1, Olivia said the new album is more about growing up and figuring out who you are.
“I think that a lot of this album is about the confusion that comes with becoming a young adult and figuring out your place in this world and figuring out who you want to be and who you want to hang out with and all of that stuff,” she said. “I think that that’s probably an experience that everyone has had in their life before, is just that rising from that disillusionment.”
