When announcing Vernon’s passing on social media, ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ host shares a video of her ‘friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps’ singing for her dad at the bash.

AceShowbizOprah Winfrey‘s father Vernon sadly passed away at the age of 88 after losing his battle with cancer. “The Oprah Winfrey Show” host announced her father’s passing on Saturday, July 9, just days after she threw a surprise party dedicated to him.

Making use of Instagram, Oprah shared a video from the backyard barbecue. “Vernon Winfrey 1933-2022,” she captioned it. “Less than a week ago we honored my father in his own backyard. My friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps saluted him with song. He FELT the love and reveled in it until he could no longer speak.”

“Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside, I had the sacred honor of witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath,” the TV personality continued. “We could feel Peace enter the room at his passing. That Peace still abides. All is well. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts.”

Oprah threw an Appreciation Day barbeque for Vernon when celebrating the Fourth of July. In a video from the event, she explained, “So, I’ve been planning a backyard barbecue that’s actually more than a backyard barbecue, it’s for Vernon Winfrey Appreciation Day.”

The media mavent went on to note that she wanted to make sure her father knows how much he is loved. “My father is ill and so we wanted to be able to have all of his friends come and celebrate him while he’s able to receive the joy,” she elaborated.

Oprah’s best friend and fellow TV personality Gayle King, who also attended the bash, asked off camera if her dad was “excited” about the celebration. In response, the “A Wrinkle in Time” actress said, “He, doesn’t even know that this is for him.”

“He thinks it’s a Fourth of July thing,” Oprah further shared. “He doesn’t know … He’s gonna walk out and see everything.” The billionaire later wrapped the footage by showing her dad sitting down across the yar. She said, “My dad is a barber so we put him in the barber chair.”

In the caption of the post, Oprah penned, “Giving my father his ‘flowers’ while he’s still well enough to smell them.” She then raved, “Happy 4th of July as you gather with your family and friends. Remember to celebrate each other.”
