The ‘Patient Number 9’ rocker is glad he finally can hold his head well following a latest surgery after previously forced to hunch over because of back pain.
AceShowbiz –Ozzy Osbourne is finally able to hold his head up straight following a “life-altering” surgery. Sharing his health update on “Good Morning America“, the Black Sabbath frontman, 73, marks his first TV interview since undergoing an extensive procedure, carried out after he was left crying in agony when metal plates inserted into his back to try and resolve his back issues started working their way out of his body and rubbing on his spine.
“Since I’ve had the surgery, I’ve improved quite considerably,” Ozzy said on Wednesday (07.09.22). He added he can finally “hold my head up” after being left hunched over before surgery.
His wife Sharon, 69, who joined him for the chat said about his battle with pain before the operation, “These metal plates were working their way out. The debris was rubbing on his spinal cord. He would literally be crying in pain some days.”
Before Ozzy went into hospital for surgery, Sharon called his operation “major” and said it would “determine the rest of his life.” The former co-host of “The Talk” joked on “Good Morning America” her singer husband of 40 years is also “a pain in the butt,” adding, “I mean, everything from heartbreaking to soul-destroying, to joys of him getting better.”
Ozzy, who performed last month for the first time since his surgery, added that he still issues getting around, saying, “I have to negotiate everywhere I want to go, and I tire easily, but I’m well. My family have been absolutely wonderful while I’ve been laid up.”
The rock survivor’s myriad of health issues have included Covid, brutal neck injuries after a 2003 quad biking accident and a 2019 fall that devastated his back. Ozzy was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019.
He told The Observer in August about his symptoms, “You think you’re lifting your feet, but your foot doesn’t move. I feel like I’m walking around in lead boots… without my Sharon, I’d be f****** gone. We have a little row now and then, but otherwise we just get on with it.”
He gave the update on his health after it was revealed Ozzy will kick off this year’s NFL season with a half-time performance. Ozzy is set to play on Thursday (08.09.22) during the Los Angeles Rams v Buffalo Bills game in a gig which follows his return to stage last month.
Held at California’s SoFi Stadium, he is set to perform a multi-song medley during the appearance. The Los Angeles Rams announced the half-time performance on Twitter, by writing, “Ready to rock for Thursday night football.”
Ozzy’s performance also leads up to the release of his new album, “Patient Number 9“, due out later this year, featuring appearances from Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith, Metallica‘s Robert Trujillo, and the Foo Fighters‘ late Taylor Hawkins.
Ozzy’s schedule is also packed as he is set to return to TV screens alongside his wife Sharon in a new 10-part reality series, “Home to Roost“, which focuses on their journey back home to the UK from America.
