Peter Kay teases ‘big announcement’ after triumphant string of comeback gigs

Comedian Peter Kay has recently had a triumphant string of comeback gigs, and his streak of success seems set to continue as he's teased a "big announcement" coming soon.

Peter, 49, took to Twitter earlier today (Wednesday 7 November), telling fans to tune into Sara Cox's Drivetime show on BBC Radio 2 tomorrow, as he will be revealing some exciting news.

The statement shared by the comedianreads: "I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to the first shows in Manchester. It was incredible to be a part of such a happy experience.

"Everybody deserves a bit of joy. Here's to a lot more in the shows to come!!

"P.S. big announcement Thursday on Sarah Cox Drivetime Show just after 6pm."

Fans were quick to share their hopes as to what the announcement will be, with many calling for third season of the comedian's hit series Phoenix Nights.

One fan wrote: "Really glad Peter Kay is back, heard that he got a 5min standing ovation when he walked out on stage on night 1 in Manchester. I Wonder what his big announcement will be? Personally i'm hoping it is the long awaited return of Phoenix Nights."

Another added: "Will keep dreaming of this announcement being the return of Phoenix Nights!"

Others shared their own hopes in regards to the announcement, with one posting: "Plz let this be another series of Car Share."

And a fourth fan added hopes that more tour dates will be added, writing: "I really hope there are more dates in Glasgow or Edinburgh" while another requested: "another Newcastle date."

It comes after Peter became overwhelmed with emotion at his first comeback gig at the Manchester AO Arena on Friday (December 2).

Taking to the stage he received a rapturous standing ovation which lasted several minutes, with audiences chanting his name.

The comedian has been largely absent from the public eye for the last four years, with this live tour marking his first in 12 years.

Peter cancelled his last tour in December 2017, citing "unforeseen family circumstances."

He returned to the stage earlier this year, as he kickstarted his Dance For Life tour on Friday 15 April at Manchester Central Convention Complex.

During the three hour ‘dance-a-thon’, which is raising money for Cancer Research UK, the comedian turned DJ as he treated his audience to everything from S Club to House of Pain.
