Pink changes Britney Spears lyric to send support during Sam Asghari split

Britney Spears has been the talk of the celeb world in recent days following her split from husband Sam Asghari after just 14 months of marriage.

In the wake of the news, Pink took to the stage at Comerica Park, in Detroit, and performed her 2001 hit Don’t Let Me Get Me, which includes Britney’s name in.

The original lyric is: “Tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears / She’s so pretty / That just ain’t me.”

When she performed the hit, the star changed “damn” to “sweet”, much to the delight of fans who cheered her on during the song.

Instagram account @Breatheheavy shared the clip, with many social media users praising Pink for her little sign of support for the Toxic singer.

@Lola2885 said: “Love this! People need to give her grace. This poor human can only take so much!”

@Brianchgoil added: “So awesome, love Pink even more for doing that!!”

@Britneyarmy21 commented: “Pink is always so supportive of Britney. I hope one day they can collaborate.”

This comes after Pink previously revealed that he feels “protective” of Britney and has taken on the role of “big sister” in a candid interview.

She told People: “People think I was picking on Britney on [my 2001 single] Don’t Let Me Get Me, but I’ve always felt like a big sister to her.

“I’m very protective of her, and she’s the sweetest person in the world. I wish her well. I cover her in light all day long.”

Back in May 2021, Pink spoke out about how she wished she did more to help Britney when she had her meltdown in 2008.

The Who Knew hitmaker had seen the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears and it made her sympathize with the pop icon.

She said on Watch What Happens Live: “I felt sad that back then like I didn’t know, back in the day, in the early days, I didn’t know. Like I could’ve reached out more.

“I don’t like feeling helpless and, or powerless and I can only imagine how she feels and she could’ve used some support.”

“I wish I could’ve reached out and gave her a hug.”

Britney’s husband Sam Asghari has since confirmed the split, with a short Instagram message reading: “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together.

We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I was her the best always.

“S**t happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful.”
