Queen Margrethe of Denmark has tested positive for Covid-19 upon her return home from Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday.
Margrethe travelled over to London for the historic state funeral, and in light of her positive test has cancelled all her upcoming activities for the rest of the week while she recovers.
It’s believed that this is the second time this year the 82 year old royal has contracted the virus.
Queen Margrethe – who is the last remaining Queen in Europe – is currently residing at Fredensborg Castle, the Danish Firm's autumn residence.
She had been due to host a reception at Christianborg Castle on Friday for members of the Danish government and European Parliament, Mirror Online reports.
Margarthe’s son Crown Prince Frederik and his wife Crown Princess Mary will fill in for the Danish monarch.
Prince Frederik joined his mother for the Queen’s funeral, but Princess Mary wasn’t in attendance.
Her absence comes after she was accidentally invited to later be uninvited, sparking the UK Foreign Office to send its “profound apologies”.
Princess Mary had initially been confirmed to be going to Her Majesty the Queen’s funeral, but the family claimed to have later received a letter from the Foreign Office saying it issued Mary’s invitation by some “regrettable error”.

A statement from the Royal House read: “There has been a regrettable error in the invitation from the British Foreign Office's protocol. It is thus only the Queen and the Crown Prince who, from the Danish side, will participate in Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral on Monday.”
A spokesperson from The British Foreign Office told Mail Online it sent an apology to the Danish Royal Household via the Danish Embassy.
It has been claimed the “regrettable error” was made due to the Foreign Office having to “send out many invitations within a short space of time”.
In light of the faux pas, a spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said: “The FCDO has passed on their profound apologies to the Danish Royal Household through the Danish Embassy.”
It’s said that Mary could have been excluded from the service because only one extra guess was permitted.
BT's royal correspondent Jacob Heinel Jensen said the Danish royal house would have been “upset” by last-minute changes and called the retraction “really clumsy and unfortunate”.
He continued: “It has meant that the Royal House must now say that a mistake had been made, and that is embarrassing.”
