Rebekah Vardy believes she is suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after having “serious panic attacks” following her losing her libel claim against Coleen Rooney in the Wagatha Christie case.
It was announced on Friday 29 July that Rebekah, 40, lost her legal battle with Colleen, 36, after their high-profile trial in May. Coleen has accused Rebekah of leaking stories about her to the press through her Instagram account.
High Court judge Mrs Justice Karen Steyn found the viral social media post by Coleen, coined ‘Wagatha Christie’, about her accusations towards Rebekah to be “substantially true”.
The two women waited eight agonising weeks to hear the verdict of the case, and now Rebekah has opened up about having PTSD from the outcome,. She has said she has been taken to hospital twice since her episodes began.
The wife of Leicester striker Jamie Vardy shared she felt as though her life was “falling apart” and she was exhausted “physically, emotionally and mentally”.
Speaking to The Sun, Rebekah revealed that she had been admitted to hospital twice to be treated for mental health issues since the original post in 2019.
She said: “I was having serious panic attacks, I had kidney stones which were brought on by stress, and I just felt like my life was falling apart. Physically, emotionally and mentally it was exhausting.
Rebekah added: “It was draining. I had to go to hospital a couple of times because they were really worried about my mental wellbeing. And since the court case, I think I’m probably suffering with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
“I feel physically sick when I talk about the trial and what happened, and I have nightmares.
“I haven’t gone to get a diagnosis yet but I do know I probably need some more therapy. It’s been a horrible time.”
Rebekah spoke out in response to the trial verdict last week, saying that she was "extremely sad and disappointed" in a statement.
She said: she said: "I am extremely sad and disappointed at the decision that the judge has reached.
“It is not the result that I had expected, nor believe was just. I brought this action to vindicate my reputation and am devastated by the judge’s finding.
“The judge accepted that publication of Coleen’s post was not in the ‘public interest’ and she also rejected her claim that I was the ‘Secret Wag’. But as for the rest of her judgement, she got it wrong and this is something I cannot accept.”
