Ricky Martin is being sued by his ex-manager, Rebecca Drucker, who says he owes her $3million (£2.4million) in commissions.
Drucker says she initially represented Martin from 2014 to 2018 but stepped back in in 2020 when his ‘personal and professional life [were] in absolute turmoil,’ according to court documents.
She says she went on to help him make millions of dollars through tours (including one with Enrique Iglesias), recording contracts, and sponsorships, and helped him to get back on track.
Drucker claims she also protected him when he was threatened with ‘career-ending allegations.’
The manager also claimed that when she asked him for the money, he threatened her to stay quiet and demanded she sign a non-disclosure agreement (which she did not do).
She alleged that Martin – real name Enrique Martin Morales – lied to her and manipulated her, which forced her to quit in April this year.
Drucker is suing for $3million plus punitive damages.
Part of the complaint reads: ‘Rebecca Drucker saved Ricky Martin’s career […]
‘There is just one problem: Martin completely and maliciously refused to pay Rebecca the millions of dollars in commissions that he owes her under their management agreement.’
It adds: ‘By his flagrant breach of contract, Martin betrayed Rebecca and took for granted her loyalty, dedication, and exceptional service to him.
‘What is worse, Martin fostered a toxic work environment wherein he constantly mistreated, manipulated, and lied to Rebecca, forcing her to resign as his manager in April 2022.’
Martin has sold more than 70million records worldwide, and has two Grammys and five Latin Grammys to his name.
He’s seen huge success with a number of songs, most notably 1999’s Livin’ La Vida Loca.
