Rylan Clark was forced to hit back at This Morning viewers on Friday after many suggested that he didn't need to worry about the rising price of energy bills.

Rylan, 33, has been hosting the ITV show alongside Ruth Langsford, 62, over recent days while Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby continue to enjoy their summer break.

On 26 August it was announced that the energy price cap is set to increase again from 1 October, and Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis appeared on Good Morning Britain, This Morning and Lorraine to provide advice.

After chatting to Rylan and Ruth, who both branded the energy price increase "disgusting", the pair received many messages from viewers who criticised them for "not understanding" the severity of the situation.

Rylan revealed he'd received many messages saying he "doesn't need to worry" about the crisis due to his wealth, and Ruth said she'd also had similar comments from viewers.

"Ruth and Rylan are rich and have loads of money, look at them with their fake concerned faces," one unhappy ITV viewer tweeted.

Following an advert break, Rylan hit back at those criticising him and told This Morning that the energy price increase will impact "every single person we know".

"I should just say this as well, and this is a very personal thing I'm going to say.

"You get a lot of people saying, 'what do you know? You've got money, you're a TV presenter' and things like that. Let me just say, I'll be honest with you," he began.

Rylan continued: "I've also got a mum, I've also got a brother, I've got family. I'm very lucky that I do my job and I've been working in this industry for 10 years now, and I've been very clever with my money

"But this is affecting everyone, this is gonna affect every single person we know and it's all very relative, so we're gonna ask those questions. I just think it's absolutely disgusting what is going on at the moment, I really, really do."

Ruth then agreed, saying: "I take your point because I get the same. It is our job to ask those questions."

Rylan defiantly added: "We're gonna help, that's what we're gonna do."

Many took to Twitter to praise Rylan for his comments, with one writing: "Go Rylan…talking sense, I like his passion and his presenting."

Another agreed: "Well done @Rylan," as a third added: "Loving @Rylan on #ThisMorning speaking for us all and his passion. Get them told."

Energy prices are set to increase again from 1 October, energy regulator Ofgem confirmed on 26 August.

Good Morning Britain hosts Kate Garraway and Adil Ray broke the news to ITV viewers, with Kate announcing the new figures on the show.

Kate said: "We have breaking news this morning. Energy regulator Ofgem within the last few seconds have announced the energy price cap will rise from £1,971, to £3,549.

"This means millions of households will face an 80 percent rise in energy bills from October."
